The majority of us don’t actually know that there’s a difference between food and nutrients. However, it turns out that we’re wrong; the difference between the two is not something that should be taken lightly.
Food is the stuff we eat and drink for energy and to stay alive. On the other hand, nutrition is a part of food that is used by our cells and metabolized by the body to make all the contributions that our body needs. Not all nutrients are acquired from food. Some of them may come, for example, from vitamin complexes and drinks.
Contrary to what one might think, we don’t need food to function properly......we actually need nutrition.
For all living things, from plants to humans, food is essential for survival. We need to be smart and make sure to fuel ourselves with the right kind of food in order to get the best from our bodies and minds. Good nutrition can also fend off illnesses and reduce the physical impacts of stress and a busy life.
That’s why we need to be proactive about what we eat. Before putting anything in your mouth, ask yourself if it’s going to add nutrition to your body or take something away. Take out the processed foods from your diet and focus more on foods that are nutritious, like oats, and contain many nutrients that other foods don't have, such as protein and vitamins.
Finally, nutrition doesn’t mean deprivation. If you have a sweet tooth or you’re not willing to let go your dessert after dinner just yet, you can always find alternatives that are both healthy and tasty.
